been there seen that 2008-2

Batboy (Blue Rep)
Nice production. Who wouldn’t be intrigued if a musical had live-rabbit eating, an orgy, a soliloquy with a severed cow head, and a rock score?! Its nice to see the passion and energy of these guys for theater. Marvin Ong was just exceptional as Edgar/Batboy! Mian Dimacali and Laura Cabochan were great too. Aside from the hot venue (Please Ateneo, kailangan na ng bagong teatro rito!!!), I had a fun time seeing this prod.

Check out Vince de Jesus’ post on Batboy.

EJ (Tanghalang Pilipino)
It’s odd that Ateneo didn’t play a big role in carrying out this production when the material was very Atenean in character. The rock-musical focuses on the lives of two Martial Law heroes, Edgar Jopson and Evelio Javier and features the music of the Dawn. Though the narrative could have been streamlined better for more action and less confusion, the music made up for what was lacking in the show. Seeing Jett Pangan belt out his songs was just amazing. Parang concert na ng The Dawn at times, hehe. The final scene with the widows singing a beautifully arranged “Salamat” was intense. As I watched with some JVP people that afternoon, we talked to Ms. Joy Soler de Castro about bringing the show to Ateneo. They’re actually thinking of touring it someday and are asking for the help of Ateneans who’ve seen the show to bring it to the University. Sabs, we have some writing to do na… Maybe I can post something longer when it returns.

Romance in D (Repertory Philippines)
Charming romantic comedy featuring Ana Abad Santos-Bitong, Audie Gemora, Pinky Marquez, and Chinggoy Alonzo. I loved the musical references and the interaction of the two couples. Made me miss seeing Neil Simon comedies by Rep. I wonder when they’ll have one again? For now, let me pop my copy of Barefoot in the Park in the player again.

Check out Vanessa’s entry about the show.

Hay. . . Patapos na ang current theater season. After Altar Boyz sa April, halos dalawang buwan na naman ng katigangan sa teatro. Time to focus on the summer load and graduating!!!

Harry Potter: THREE more films by David Yates to go

Confeermed news on mugglenet.com and the-leaky-cauldron.com. There will be three more Potter films: HBP, DH Part I, and DH Part II. I wonder how they'll make the cut? Exciting, two HP movies 6 months apart!

---------------------------
From Mugglenet.com

Deathly Hallows split confirmed; David Yates to direct Story highlights
- Part 1 to be released November 2010, Part 2 May 2011.
- JK Rowling was "cool" with the idea, according to Heyman.
- Warner Brothers to make official announcement tomorrow at ShoWest.

It's official! The LA Times has confirmed that Deathly Hallows will be split into two films AND will be directed by OOTP and HBP director David Yates. Read the full article HERE. Quotage from the article:

Producer David Heyman said the decision was made with some anxiety and only after considerable deliberations. The producer joked that "while my wife and Warner Brothers were pleased" to hear that the Potter movie magic will continue into the next decade, he himself fretted that the cynical observers would see the decision as a purely mercenary move.

"I swear to you it was born out of purely creative reasons," Heyman said during an interview in a converted airplane factory outside London that has been home base to all of the "Potter" productions. "Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book. You can remove scenes of Ron playing quidditch from the fifth book, and you can remove Hermione and S.P.E.W. [Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare] and those subplots . . . but with the seventh, that can't be done."

Heyman said he approached Rowling with some trepidation about the strategy but found that she signed off on its logic rather quickly. "I went to Jo and she was cool with it," Heyman said, "and that was quite a relief."
